External behavior field greyed out in inspector.

Hello,

I'm not sure if I get the workflow right on this:

I use a NPC prefab which has a behavior tree on it. I also have multiple external behavior trees (e.g. PoliceOfficer and BankRobber).

If I want to assign any of these, do I have to make another behavior and then use an external behavior reference task, or can I just assign it directly?

My thought would have been to assign it to the "External behavior" field on the inspector, but it is always greyed out.
