BD Pro Upgrade Comment

Not a big deal for me today as I have other non-Unity things that I can be doing, but this instruction:

Tools → Opsive → Behavior Designer → Upgrade Project Serialization again after importing.

for the upgrade to the latest version of BD Pro has taken roughly 8 hours and is still cranking. I didn't see any options on it to somehow constrain it, but it appears to be looking at every prefab in the project multiple times.

It is probably a good idea to either adjust what that command does under the covers or warn people that the upgrade will take a long time.

That duration is clearly disruptive. The command is a project-data migration that upgrades Behavior Designer graphs and component Shared Variables in prefabs; the available information does not verify its traversal strategy or provide a scope/limit option, so I can’t confirm why it is revisiting particular prefabs or whether the run is stalled.

Please let the current run finish if Unity is still making progress, then check the Console for errors or warnings and review the resulting changed assets before committing them. The documented workflow is to back up or commit first and run the migration once.

To distinguish an unusually large but completing migration from a problem in this project, please report whether it completes, any Console output, the Pro version you upgraded from and to, and an approximate prefab count. A reproducible run in a project copy after Unity has finished compiling/importing would also help isolate it safely. The request for clearer duration guidance or configurable scope is understandable, but I can’t confirm an available option for either from the supplied product information.

Completed. I think it was about 10 hours when all was said and done. No errors to speak of but it probably should not scan every prefab in the project multiple times. If it is going to do that, best to warn other users that the process is going to take a long time.
