Surface Manager with Characters

Hello,

i was wondering what the best way is to add for example the flesh surface impact for an character if i hit it.
i am aware of the Surface Manager and adding the textures but i am having the following problem with it: The Character has, as all characters the rigidbody and the rigidbody is bigger than the mesh underneath with the texture. So if i hit the character the generic fallback decal is showing because thje raycast never reaches the mesh with the texture. I can solve this problem if i deselect the layer from the impact surface on the shootable weapon component but that also means that the character can not take any damage.

Is there somekind of best practice?
